3 Ways You can Save Money at the Grocery Store

I plan to live a debt and interest free life. I have developed habits over the years that has helped my family to live a  simple, frugal life. The income had varied over the years but the lifestyle remained the same- striving to live a frugal life through mindful spending.

There are many ways to save money and saving money at the grocery stores is no 1 on my list to live a frugal life. You can save a lot of money over time if you know how to shop well. It takes time to learn the habit of cutting back and not spening impulsively but it’s so worth it.

Buying fewer processed and prepped food save you time, money, energy and you become less wasteful. It is also good for your health since you are eating more whole foods and fewer to no processed food that may come in a bag, bottle or jar.

Here are 3 ways you can save money when you go for grocery shopping-

  1. Buy Whole Fruits and Vegetables- You pay almost twice or more for half the quantity when you purchase prepped up vegetable or cut up fruit. Sure it’s convenience but the price and the quality in not worth it. Instead, you can buy the whole fruit or vegetable and prep it the way you like. You can store them in small containers and they are ready to use without the price tag.

You also get better quality produce since you’re the who’s picking the fruit or vegetable. You can use most of the fruit, producing very little trash and can compost what you can’t eat. It’s good for your wallet and the environment.

2. Make Your Own Salad Dressing-

You can use your own salad dressing instead of buying prepared ones. A lot of the times you don’t even know what comes in a bottle of salad dressing, even it’s organic. Organic toxins are not  any better then regualr toxins!

A simple way to dress up your salad is to whisk olive oil, garlic powder, salt and pepper together and drizzle on your greens. Have an extra 5 minutes? Blend together 1 ripe avocado, olive oil and a couple of garlic cloves, add olive oil, salt and pepper to the mix and you have a nice salad dressing for your salad. Love ranch dressing? Whip together sour cream, garlic powder, chopped up parsley, salt, pepper and a little water and drape on your Caesar salad.

3. Buy Good Quality Treats and Buy them Ocassionally-

A treat loses its charm when we buy it too often and it gets replaced all the time. You don’t even have the time to miss it since it’s replaced before you know it. You don’t look forward to enjoying these things anymore when it’s available all the time. So find out what your family considers as treats and look for great quality in those items. It can be more costly than their inferior quality counterparts but that’s what makes them treats. You look forward to enjoying them and savor them when you have them.

You may spend more on the occasional purchase of a quality item but you actually end up spending less when you consider the total cost of buying a lot of poor quality items.

There are more ways to save at the grocery store but these are 3 ways you can start saving money. It takes some time to start and adjust to a frugal lifestyle but the result is fulfilling alhamdulillah. You worry less about moneyor being in debt or paying interest. And whatever you do to please Allah(swt) has enormous blessing in it.
